Head Custodian
Job Description
Westminster Presbyterian Church – Grand Rapids, MI
Supervised by:  Facilities Manager


Position Summary:

This position is accountable to the Facilities Manager.  The primary focus of this position is to insure that Westminster’s facilities are properly maintained and cleaned to host church and related ministry events and programming.  This involves oversight, planning, scheduling, execution, and follow-up.

Job Classification:  Non-Exempt, hourly position, 35 hours per week

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Prioritize, schedule, and direct custodial tasks on a daily, weekly, and annual basis.
  2. Schedule and coordinate major cleaning projects with other staff members.
  3. Maintain and clean all carpeted areas.
  4. Maintain and clean all tiled areas.
  5. Coordinate with other staff members, committees, and leaders to ensure proper set-up, equipping, and restoration of classrooms and other facilities.
  6. Make minor building and equipment repairs.
  7. Order, store, inventory, and secure building supplies and materials.
  8. Provide emergency “on call” services.
  9. Have a good understanding of the building, mechanics, and equipment to be available to step in for Facility Manager as needed
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.
  11. Works with others as a team to accomplish church goals.

Essential Skills

  1. Relate well to members, visitors, and staff.
  2. Possess interpersonal skills to effectively supervise the custodial staff.
  3. Able to effectively and safely operate equipment to maintain the interior and exterior of the WPC campus.
  4. Attend to details and thoroughness.
  5. Able to work flexible hours, and be available for special events as needed and respond to emergency “on call” situations.
  6. Capable of moving heavy and/or awkward objects.
  7. Employ safe work practices.
  8. Able to work in a Christian, faith based environment.

Administrative Assistant for Mission
Job Description
Westminster Presbyterian Church - Grand Rapids, MI
Supervised by: Church Administrator

Job Classification: Non-exempt, hourly position, 35 hour per week

Position Summary:

This position supplies administrative support to the program staff responsible for the following ministries:

 Associate Pastor for Mission and Pastoral Care
 Minister for Mission
 Church Administrator

Key duties and Responsibilities:

For Mission:

  1. Track mission participants in event registration, receive and record the required deposits, forms etc.
  2. Maintain Mission Participation lists and web interface
  3. Research travel arrangements and track dates and deadlines for mission trips
  4. Maintain all committee minutes for committees under Minister for Mission and Associate Pastor
  5. Update and maintain, in CDM+, all committee members for groups under Minister for Mission and Associate Pastor
  6. Back-up as needed for office staff, including maintaining membership database and related functions; financial database entry; calendaring and mailing; filing; greeter’s desk; maintaining office machines; etc.
  7. Other duties as assigned by Minister for Mission and Associate Pastor

Skills Required:

  1. Ability to positively interact with staff, volunteers, parishioners and public
  2. Strong computer skills: MS Office, Publisher, Outlook, and CDM+, In Design
  3. Ability to work with internet/websites and social media
  4. Strong communication and listening skills
  5. Excellent command of the English language: correct grammar, proofreading, editing, and composition skills
  6. Experience operating office machines and equipment
  7. Possess a sense of flexibility
  8. Must be detail oriented and have good organizational skills
  9. Self – starter and problem solving abilities necessary
