Adult Education

The committee that works to plan and facilitate educational opportunities for adults is called the committee for Spiritual Life and Learning. That title reflects our commitment to the practices and disciplines that will help us to continue growing, daily, in our ability to name and live the good news of God’s presence, love, and justice. Adult classes and discussion groups are focused in three key areas:

  1. The study of scripture itself
  2. The traditions and history of the people of faith
  3. The realities of the culture and world in which we live and the ways in which our faith speaks to the brokenness of that world.

Our primary time for adult education is the weekly Education Hour, 9:30-10:40a each Sunday. We meet in the Chapel for more formal presentations and in the dining room around tables for more discussion-oriented encounters. Occasionally we do both at the same time so there are options!

Bible study groups and short term study opportunities also are scheduled at various times during the week. A Bible Study group meets on Thursday mornings and there are often short-term book, Bible or thematic studies on Wednesday evenings, particularly during the Lenten season. Westminster hosts an on-going on-line Bible study opportunity called Westminster Reads (www.westminsterreads.com) which provides guided reading through the Bible.
