Why Music Matters

I will sing and make music to the Lord because God is my light and my salvation— of whom then shall I be afraid? The Lord is the strength of my life.

Psalm 27

The role of music

Westminster Presbyterian Church is a congregation united in praising God through music and song. We believe music is one of God’s greatest gifts, and it has an important role to play in the life of our church.

Why does music matter so much in the church?

Music enhances our worship by giving praise to God in a different way. Vocal and instrumental music help convey feelings and ideas and help us understand our faith. Music gives us a sense of participation and community, engaging all generations. Music helps us connect to God, no matter where we are on our faith journey.

How can I participate?

At Westminster, we have a long tradition of extensive opportunities for participation for those of all talents and ages–challenging all who wish to join in this expression of worship to do their best. Our children’s choir program begins with those in preschool and continues through high school. Our Sanctuary Choir and instrumental ensembles offer opportunities for adult participation. You can find out more about our musical groups here.

Please contact Ellen Pool, Interim Sanctuary Choir Director, at ellenpool@comcast.net with any questions.

Instrumental Groups

Our instrumental groups cover strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion, coming together to offer music to the congregation.

What if I'm not musically talented?

Whether you consider yourself a musician or not, we can all come together to make music to praise God! We encourage all ages and all levels of talent to join us in making music.
