Children’s Ministries

Like all members in the church community, children require holistic faith formation: time to sing, time to dance, time to laugh, time to learn, time to pray, and time to reflect. This is why children begin Sunday worship in the Sanctuary and participate alongside adults in events and service throughout the church—children are a vital part of our church community.

Resources and Updates from Children's Ministries

Time to Worship

Children can worship in person at church with their families and in worship centers, or they can worship virtually from home using our livestream and weekly resources for virtual worship posted on this page.

Time to Learn

Children’s worship resources shared virtually include memory verses, prayers, and bulletins for children to continue learning about that week’s Biblical story and chapter.

Time to Serve

Events like the Walk for Mental Health allow children and adults to serve the community together. Opportunities to serve are posted on our website and shared through our email newsletters.

Time to Sing

Children’s engage in song (whether in person or through song videos) to worship through song and learn about God through music. During the school year, children can participate in choirs and the annual musical.

Children's Programs

Activities are tailored to particular age groups, offering ways to worship, learn, play, and engage in faith.

The Westminster Nursery

Our littlest children are cared for in the nursery while parents and family attend classes and worship. The nursery is open from 9:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., staffed by a supervisor and paid caregivers. They provide a safe, welcoming environment where babies and toddlers can play, be rocked, and be read to. Each week, one or two parents or members of the congregation take turns volunteering as extra hands under the supervision of the staff.

The Nurturing Center

Children ages three and four can hear a short story, pray together, and take part in supervised play and response time in the nurturing center. Arts and crafts activities related to the story are available, as well as blocks, puzzles, Play-doh, and Nerf bowling balls!

Worship Centers

We welcome children age five through second grade into the worship centers, though the point of readiness for shifting to this more formal education format is flexible. In these centers, children follow the order of worship used in the Sanctuary—but the scripture is presented through manipulative story materials. This interactive approach emphasizes the language, space, and order of worship.

Church School and Choirs

Children in first through fifth grade participate in a worship format. We explore one story or set of events per month, rotating through workshops in areas like drama, art, games, and Bible skills to approach the story from different perspectives. We invite children to interact creatively with the story, exploring how it may inform their daily lives. We understand music to be a strong avenue in children’s learning of the faith story, as well as the ethos of the life of faith. Anthems and songs are chosen to enrich and extend the stories we work with and reflect the rhythym of the church year.
