Facilities Technician – Day Shift

Classification:  Full time – 6am-2pm (30-40hr/wk), Non-Exempt, Health and Dental included, voluntary life, vision and disability insurance optional. 403b Employer contributions after one year service.  Earned time off starting at 3 weeks per year.

About the Position:  The facility technician’s primary responsibility is for ensuring that Westminster’s facilities are properly maintained by performing minor building and grounds cleaning, repairs and updates. The ideal candidate will bring both technical expertise and a servant-oriented heart, understanding that maintaining the church building and grounds serves the greater purpose of enabling ministry and supporting our community of faith.

What You’ll do:

  • Prioritize, schedule and execute building maintenance tasks in cooperation with the Operations Manager
  • Set up and take down event spaces, including tables, chairs, staging, and equipment
  • Ensure rooms are prepared according to event layouts and schedules
  • Assist with pre- and post-event cleaning and general facility upkeep
  • Work alongside event and facility staff to ensure smooth, on-time transitions
  • Follow safety procedures and properly handle equipment
  • Help create a welcoming, professional environment for members and visitors
  • Monitor church calendar and communicate any changes needed with facility staff
  • Order, store and inventory building supplies
  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Meet with vendors to facilitate maintenance needs of building and grounds
  • Know and understand emergency and evacuation procedures
  • Wash, dry and put away linens as needed
  • Clean as needed, serve as back up for vacations and illness
  • Daily grounds maintenance and upkeep, mowing, shoveling, weeding gardens, including playground
  • Coordinate floor cleaning schedules for WPC and WCDC with Operations Manager
  • Attend to member needs as requested
  • Assist food pantry coordinator with weekly food order as needed
  • Assist staff weddings and funerals as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Capable of moving heavy or awkward objects, Ability to lift 35-50 pounds
  • Capable of using ladders as required
  • Ability to push/pull 100+ pounds utilizing a cart, dolly or pallet jack
  • Employ safe work practices
  • Able to work in a Christian, faith based environment

Previous experience in event set-up, facilities, or hospitality is a plus—but not required. We’re happy to train the right person who brings dedication and a strong work ethic.

Requirements:

Education:  

 High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred

Experience: 

A minimum of 1 year commercial or professional cleaning and or related set-up experience preferred.

Event set-up experience preferred.

Facility Maintenance (light duty) experience preferred.

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification preferred
  • Ability to interact with church members, staff, vendors, and contractors in a courteous and professional manner to support a safe and positive experience.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Working knowledge of event set-up practices, including staging, seating arrangements, basic audio/visual equipment.
  • Ability to safely move, assemble, and disassemble tables, chairs, stages, and other event materials, including items of significant weight.
  • General knowledge of fire codes, ADA accessibility requirements, and basic event safety practices, with the ability to follow established procedures.
  • Basic working knowledge of computer systems.
  • Basic proficiency with common business applications such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Outlook and Word, or comparable tools.
  • Ability to manage assigned tasks effectively while maintaining awareness of time and event deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt to changing event needs and schedules while exercising sound judgment.
  • Ability to identify routine needs and concerns within the scope of assigned responsibilities and communicate them appropriately.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a collaborative environment.
  • Commitment to personal accountability, reliability, and completing assigned work to established standards.
  • Ability to demonstrate a standard of service excellence
  • Ability to shift work schedule as needed, including evenings, weekends, and periodic holiday shifts.
  • Ability to adjust work hours on an agreed as-needed basis during peak vacation or project periods, which may occasionally include modified hours or limited weekend availability during capital projects.
