Support Our Ministry

A Letter from Our Elder for Stewardship

We warmly and earnestly invite you into community at Westminster, a place where stewardship and generosity are part of our spiritual life and discipline.  We share an exciting vision that includes caring for one another’s spiritual, physical, and mental needs; nurturing our children and youth; engaging with our neighbors; seeking justice in our community; and supporting God’s work in our world.  We invite you to participate with us in this vision by sharing the resources that God has given you—your time, your energy, your prayers, and your financial resources as, together, we engage in the spiritual practices of generosity and service.

As a congregation, we have committed $1, 551,318 in support of our 2021 General Fund—thank you! Our vision goes beyond the approved budget to include opportunities to support Camp Henry, the Downtown Food Pantry, our Child Development Center, supporting those in our community who have been financially affected by COVID-19, and the Deacon’s Fund.  We respond with grateful hearts and lives because of God’s abundant love for us.

Cheryl Bremer, Elder for Stewardship

Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.

Westminster's Finances and How to Give

If you have any questions that aren’t answered here, please reach out to Kathy Cisler at or 616-717-5533.

Where does my donation to Westminster go?

Through our online donation platform, you can choose where your donation will go. Many members pledge to donate to the church’s general fund, which supports many projects. Other options include the COVID-19 response fund, the Deacon Fund, Camp Henry, the Downtown Food Pantry, the Westminster Childhood Development Center, and the music program.

How can I help out if I can't donate financially?

We recognize that not everyone has the means to support our ministry financially, and that many are facing new and unforeseen financial implications in the wake of this pandemic; we never mean to put any pressure on people. There are many ways to give and to serve—you can find volunteer opportunities to extend Christ’s love through service here and donate your time, talents, and energy.

Opportunities for giving include:

  • Online giving on our secure site
  • Checks sent to the church office, attn: Kathy Cisler
  • Using our QR code (at the bottom of this page)
  • Through the offering plate
  • Gifts of stock may be directed to: Westminster Presbyterian Church (please inform Kathy Cisler of the brokerage/firm from which your gift is being sent)
  • If you are at least seventy and a half, you may consider making your charitable gift through a QCD (direct transfers of funds from your IRA custodian)

Who decides how to use the donations the church receives?

Many people are involved in handling the church’s finances and fundraising for the church, including staff members, church elders, and congregational committees. Westminster prioritizes its core missions, as well as serving when need arises (such as during the COVID-19 pandemic).

What is the deacon fund?

This fund was established many years ago to assist church members with short-term financial needs, such as utility payments, transportation, and insurance payments. The fund is generously funded by the congregation, and we want to put it to use for those that have been hard hit by under-employment, illness, or other unforeseen circumstances. To initiate a request, please contact Susan Jennings at All information will be kept confidential.
